Lisa’s Background

Lisa’s journey as an advocate, caregiver, and healthcare provider began at one year old when her college-age sister became a quadriplegic from a car accident. As a young child, Lisa learned how to empty a catheter, operate a Hoyer lift, do wheelchair transfers, and light her sister’s cigarette from the stove burner! After receiving a Master’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Washington in 1991, Lisa entered the healthcare field, working as a licensed speech-language pathologist in hospitals, nursing homes, private homes, and rehabilitation clinics.
In 2022, Lisa learned about a professional organization called Aging Life Care Association (previously Geriatric Care Managers.) As an Aging Life Care Professional®, they understand healthcare, can identify and evaluate problems, anticipate future issues, and locate relevant resources for clients, patients, and their families. Thus, Lisa applied and was accepted as an Aging Life Care Professional® and started her company, Aging with Advocacy, LLC, in Portland, Oregon.
Both personally and professionally, Lisa has seen what a health trauma, a sudden or chronic disability, and the aging process can do to an individual and their loved ones. She is here to listen, guide, find resources, and make educated recommendations. In her free time, she volunteers her time for a non-profit hospice, Hopewell House.

Lisa is trustworthy and caring, always responsive and a pleasure to work with. We are very fortunate to have her as part of my father-in-law’s care team.”
